One of the Society Island in the Pacific Ocean, Bora Bora is renowned today as one of the most luxuriously beautiful places in the world. Gaining popularity throughout and just after World War II (due to its use by the American army as a supply base), it is rumoured that a lot of the military personnel did leave Bora Bora after the war had ended as the island was so beautiful and relaxing. Known for its luxurious bungalows that are on stilts in the water.

The original name of the island in the Tahitian language might be better rendered as Pora Pora, meaning “First Born”; an early transcription found in 18th- and 19th-century accounts, is Bolabolla or Bollabolla.
